Taiwan's Defence Ministry said on Sunday it was on alert after detecting "multiple waves" of missile firing deep in inland China, days after Beijing said it had carried out a successful test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

Katie Boulter was knocked out of the China Open following a straight-sets defeat to Coco Gauff in the third round. A battling performance saw Boulter test the world number six, but Gauff managed to snatch a tight first set before wrapping up victory in the second to win 7-5 6-2.

The move is the latest in a weeklong burst of easing measures aimed at stimulating China’s moribund property market.

China's central bank said on Sunday it would tell banks to lower mortgage rates for existing home loans before Oct. 31, as part of sweeping policies to support the country's beleaguered property market as the economy slows.
