Amid the hullabaloo around California Gavin Newsom vetoing a closely watched artificial intelligence bill, three other bills that would regulate a different type of AI — autonomous vehicles — landed on his desk with less fanfare. The governor signed one, and vetoed two others.

While SB 1047 was vetoed on September 29 by Governor Gavin Newsom, 17 new AI bills were signed into law, changing the landscape of AI regulation in California.

Gavin Newsom says the bill gives the public 'a false sense of security' by targeting Big Tech, which lobbied against the bill, and ignores the threats presented by smaller companies.
