Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 remained hoisted over Batanes and the northern portion of Babuyan Islands as slow-moving Typhoon Julian passed near Sabtang Island on Monday, PAGASA said.

Batanes and northeastern Babuyan Islands are now experiencing peak typhoon-force winds caused by Typhoon “Julian” (international name: Krathon) as it continues to move over the Balintang Channel, the state weather bureau said.

PAGASA also said Julian may strengthen further in the next 48 hours, and possibly intensify into a super typhoon before hitting the southern part of Taiwan. “In this case, Julian will pass near or over Batanes during its intensification period,” added the weather bureau.
