Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi the ’Grand Commander of the Order of Niger’ (GCON) in recognition of his statesmanship and efforts to strengthen India-Nigeria relations.

After being conferred with Nigeria’s highest national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the honour will continue to inspire him to elevate the India-Nigeria strategic partnership to new heights.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, Nigeria's second-highest national honor, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday. Modi is only the second foreign dignitary to receive the award.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reached Nigeria on Sunday to begin his three-nation tour, thanked the African country's government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a warm welcome to the Indian leader and his delegation there.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently in Nigeria, visiting the country, as part of a three-nation tour to strengthen ties between India and Nigeria. In this tour the PM Modi would also be visiting Brazil and Guyana.
